The power of words In life everybody has had some sort of experience that has changed their lives and their pespective on life. A major incident like death, a minor occation like a night in prison or just what people say about you can bring new meaning to one's life. Some incidents transform a person totally. People change and mature as they go further on their journey through life. The one incident that trully made me transform from a child to a young adult was when I took my first step into the world of employment. A totally different enviroment was what lay beyong that step. The atmosphere was totally unlike anything I had ever experienced, making me realise that I had gotten into the world of realities. I didn't have to focus on school work anymore and my parents were no longer there to support me. I had to do things on my own.I had to learn to take more responsibilities. Even though the working environment was stressful sometimes, I was able to learn about myself and about the world as a whole. The experience has exceptionally changed my life. Once I was hired, I began to realise that the world is much bigger than I had thought. Interacting with different people, being independant and taking on more responsibilities has changed me in many ways. As I began to work more and more, I began to meet and interact with a whole lot of different people and that broadened my understandings. I was able to acquire different points of view from people across different levels of the social and age ladder. They taught me many things I didn't know before. Among my most memorable professional development experiences was when I attended a networking event where I learned how people socialised and engaged with each other in the coporate world, and that's when my life changed. My colleague introduced me to the whole lot of professionals and in no time, I was part of them. It suddenly felt good as I listened to them talking about different topics relevent to their professions. I began to feel free to express my point of view and I was involved in their conversations. As we discussed and debated different topics, one of them said to me, ?You sound like a very taleted and intelligent young woman, and have a lot of potential?. I was taken aback - no one has ever said that to me before, it felt so good. He further said, ?You may not believe or see it now, but one day you will look back and see how talented you are?. He was right, I could not believe it. The truth is, I did not believe in myself, I was a shy young woman who did not have confide nce. I went home that day, both excited and stunned. Those words kept on running through my mind the entire day. I saw a brighter future ahead of me.I gained confidence. The next day and ever since that day, I return to those words whenever I think I can't do it. Whenever the going gets tough, I refer to those words and tell myself I can. Those words had me flying out of my bed each morning. I kept on amazing my superiors with the good job I was doing. Words are precious. Words are the building blocks on which one's life can be based. Words are the weapon through which lives can be changed. It is words that can inform, educate and entertain society at large. But most importanly, words can be the main ingredient of change within. I have learnt to respect the power of words. The same way words once made a significant impact in my life is the same way I intend using words to change the world. I have had some difficulties in the past but because someone thinks I have potential and talent, I have learnt to believe in myself and to trust my value as a professional. Those simple words of appreciation changed how I saw myself.

In the years prior to the American Revolution there were many different perspectives on whether the colonies should fight for their independence, or remain loyal to England and attempt to repair their relationship. The loyalists, who were mostly royal governors and officials in the colonies, believed that the talk of separation from Britain was a waste of time as it seemed impossible at the time. They also believed that the colonies still owed Britain a great debt due to their support in helping win the French and Indian War.Most loyalists believed that the colonies could not survive on their own as they depended just as much, if not more, on Great Britain as they did the colonies. The opposing perspective came from the group of people know as the patriots, who supported colonial independence from England. Many believed strongly in this fight for liberty and went to great measures to express their beliefs and have their voices heard.These people disagreed with the taxes being instill ed on the colonies without proper representation, and believed that Parliament and the King were unfit to rule the colonies as such a great distance separated each country and their governments. Both sides had their arguments as to why fighting for independence or remaining loyal to Britain was the right choice, and using these arguments, attracted many people to join each of their sides.Plain Truth was an article written by James Chalmers in 1776 which was essentially an angry response to Thomas Paine’s Common Sense that was published shortly before. In seventy pages, Chalmers wrote anything he could think of to tear down Common Sense. His main fault was in his writing, as it was directed at the more educated men and women, who at the time were mostly loyalists already, unlike Common Sense which was written very simply in order to be read and understood by even the uneducated.His main opposition to Paine were his views on democracy. Paine had a strong desire for democracy, u nlike many of the other Patriots that Chalmers disagreed with wholeheartedly. He refers to the short-lived democracies of Greece and Rome, comparing them to what he believes will be the outcome of a future American democracy, resulting in war and ruins. He briefly reminds the colonists of their debt to England due to their support in the French and Indian War, but as this is clear to most colonists, a strong argument is unnecessary.Chalmers’ biggest loyalist argument is that the colonists just simply could not win a war against Britain alone, which was very true. He saw it illogical for Spain or France to assist the colonists in their fight for independence in fear of directing ideas of revolution to their own royal colonies. Although many of the ideas expressed in Plain Truth are true, his lack of simple writing and invalid arguments could not have attracted nearly as many supporters as Thomas Paine’s Common Sense.  (New, Christopher)â€Å"Of the Natural Rights of Colonists† describes the views of African Americans on the American Revolution and the patriots’ desire for independence. In this piece of writing, the African Americans compare the relationship between Great Britain and the colonies to the relationship between a slave and his or her master. They emphasize that every person, no matter who they are, what they look like, or where they came from, is born with liberty and their own God-given rights.Just as a slave has those rights ripped away from them by their master, they believe that the colonists are being stripped of their rights by England as well. Obviously being against slavery or anything similar, the African Americans who contributed to this piece of writing are supporters of the fight for independence and patriots. Comparing the colonies to slavery really emphasizes that they believe they are being treated unfairly and deserve the rights they were born with.This piece of writing would have attracted many patriot supporters, as its arguments were truthful and relevant. He explains how war is not something they want, but after nothing else has worked, it seems to be the only possible solution.After countless protests, petitions and even pleading before the King, all had been ignored. Henry enthusiastically describes the need for war, as they will no sooner give up their liberty willingly than they will die. It is clear that Patrick Henry is a strong supporter of the fight for independence from Greta Britain and a strong patriot leader as well. This piece, describing England’s refusal to compromise with the colonists pleading requests surely brought upon many patriot supporters who agreed that war was the only option left.  (Henry, Patrick )Each of these views, both loyalists and patriots has a different argument as to why the colonies should either attempt to repair their relationship with England, or fight for independence. The patriots felt that England, by controlling them, was taking away the rights that they were born with, just as masters strip slaves of their rights. They also believed that they had no other option at this point, as England was not being the least bit cooperative and had ignored all protests and pleading prior.Loyalists believed that the fight for independence would essentially end in unnecessary deaths on both parts, as they believed it was impossible for the colonists to win against the English. They were skeptical of the government that American independence would produce, as past democracies in history had all ended in ruins. Each side has many arguments that divided the colonists based on their beliefs. It is clear that each side has attracted many supporters, but in the end, the Patriots turned out superior.

An injustice can be defined as a violation of another’s rights. In literature, authors use the element of injustices as the vocal point of the story. The importance of a vocal point is pivotal in a story because it is the skeleton of the piece. The story is founded upon the existence of the injustice and the events that occur because of it. But in some cases the literary piece is not a fictional story. Not only does it occur in literature, it occurs in real life. The world’s history is plagued with unfairness and inhumane acts of injustice. For instance, the genocide of Jewish people occurred because of Adolph Hitler and his acts of cruelty. The Diary of Anne Frank showcases the injustice she, along with others, endured for the sake of their survival. She suffered a racial injustice, but the biggest injustice is that she did not survive after all the wasted time she spent trying to live normally. Because of the Nazi regime, Anne, her family, and the van Daans, had to hide in a secret annex in order to escape the Nazi’s wrath against the Jews. Anne was kept in isolation against her will because it was the only way she could survive. Unfortunately, Anne either had to physically die at a concentration camp or mentally die inside the annex. She spent two years in that annex; she was forced to grow up in that annex and miss out on opportunities that other children had. She never had the ability to actually live like a normal teenage girl and experience normality. After a while, the definition of normality fades. She has a different perspective on what is normal for her because she is stuck in an annex where she does not thrive or excel in normalcy. Her mind is altered of what humanity and love are. She is practically brainwashed because she does not know how to be normal since all she knows is of what is inside that little annex. At one point, she feels alone and hopeless. She battles between the idea that maybe getting caught would of been the better option because the hell she is stuck in is not any better. As a human being, she deserved to have rights but she had all of those rights taken away from her. It was unfair that she had lost her life and her identity in the real world. Basically, she died when she stepped into that isolated realm; she had no options or any rights. She died either way because no one deserves to live in agony. After all the suffering she endured, she still did not make it and that is the greatest injustice of all. She fought to survive but all her efforts proved to be futile against the wrath of unfairness. After facing so many hardships and pain, she still did not survive. She lost every drop of hope towards the end of her diary. Anne knew her fate either way; if she survived through the annex, she still would not be the same. She could not escape this injustice no matter what she tried. Her life became defined by this injustice; her world revolved around this injustice and she could never escape its grip. She was Jewish no matter what. And because of her heritage, this injustice would never leave her. An injustice can be used throughout a literary work. Unfortunately, injustices manifest into the real world to excrete pain and suffering on its victims. The Diary of Anne Frank illuminates the tragic affects of what an injustice can do to a person. She tried to survive against the odds, but it proved to be meaningless because she died when Hitler proclaimed the Jews inferior.
